Bernard Butler
Bernard Butler guested on Bert’s Crimson Moon and Edge of a Dream albums and played live with Bert at many shows including the 60th Birthday Session filmed by the BBC, the Somerset House Summer Series and on Jools Holland’s Later, along with Johnny Marr. “When most people were just breathing, Bert was playing guitar. That sound really was his whole life; the vibrations of the strings were life-giving. The notes were like words and the whole sound a conversation.” Bernard, who first rose to fame with the popular rock group ‘Suede’ continues a wide variety of musical activity and works on his own material as well as the duo, McAlmont & Butler.
A Simple Soul
A piece by Bernard Butler for Bert Jansch
Bernard received the TransAcoustic guitar from Johnny Marr. He says: “When most people were just breathing, Bert was playing guitar. That sound really was his whole life; the vibrations of the strings were life-giving. The notes were like words and the whole sound a conversation. Bert was a friend of mine; I played with him and hung out with him. This amazing journey is taking Bert’s inspiration – his humanity, his heart, his vision and passing it on – and passing it on – until it comes into all these different forms. That’s what folk music is all about and I think that Bert would really love this to be happening right now.
Bernard fronts a live radio show with Mark Kingston, ‘BB & The King’ from a North London Pub on Boogaloo Radio. To hear Bernard with James Walbourne talk about the TransAcoustic and ‘Around the world in 80 plays’ listen here
