Black Water Side
Trad, made famous by Anne Briggs and Bert Jansch
Peter chose to play ‘Black Water Side’ as this song was his introduction to Bert Jansch and it made a lasting impression on him. He says: “Bert uses a passing note to great effect and the tune showcases his signature riff. ‘Black Water Side’ is a challenging tune to play authentically, and its difficulty is not lost on the audience. It was hearing a recording of Bert playing this song that caught my attention and helped advance my own finger-picking style.”
“It is Bert’s ability to take a traditional tune and apply a unique interpretation and a distinct trademark style that has influenced me to write a number of my own tunes and to further explore the many musical connections the folk genre offers.”
