James Bromley
James was born in Norwich in 2003 and was raised in the Suffolk countryside. He started playing the guitar seriously in his early teens. He also plays piano and bass and sings. He has a strong leaning towards jazz, enjoying a style that encompasses more unusual and fluid time signatures and chord structures. He frequently performs his own material and cover songs solo at local open mic nights, as well as playing in a three-piece band. James composes his own music and has ambitions to study music at university.
Anji
A piece by Davy Graham played by James Bromley for Bert Jansch
James says: “I grew up hearing the music of Bert Jansch. ‘Anji’ was something I taught myself to play early on in learning the guitar. I enjoy playing ‘Anji’ because it includes elements of blues and jazz styles, which is where my own songwriting and guitar playing naturally tends to focus. I have attended some of the Bert Jansch Foundation workshops and incorporate some of the chord shapes and picking styles into the writing and performance of my own music.”
