Fintan Lucy who was nominated by Ger Wolfe, started gigging solo around Cork City in the mid-80s, and was soon on the Irish trad pub circuit, singing and backing tunes. He was a member of folk/trad bands Duchas and Pluckfocailwindskin, and the acoustic rock harmony band The Phintones. As a solo act, he has performed around Ireland and in New York, England, Wales, Spain and Switzerland. He has taught song-writing at The Munster Literature Centre and facilitates community music workshops around Cork.

This song of Fintan’s, ‘Peace will Come Again’ is featured in the US movie Blind Pass. Fintan says: “I first heard Bert Jansch’s music a teenager on a Pentangle cassette in the 70’s.

I was slowly learning to play acoustic guitar and the sound electrified me. Bert Jansch to me is the embodiment of the meeting of folk music and the sixties, a force and a feeling who has directly and indirectly seeped into my own humble efforts as a songwriter and guitarist. I’m lucky to have finally got to see him play live in my native Cork in 2006.

Fintan’s songs have been recorded by Rory McCarthy and by Cork-based Wexford songwriter Lynda Cullen, with whom he gigs regularly as a duo since the two anchored the Songlines folk club which ran in Cork from 2009 to 2010. ‘Utterly passionate…an all-round gem…refreshingly timeless’ is how the Irish Examiner described his 2002 album of original songs ‘The Is and Was and Maybes’.
